Synrgic Dreambook W7

I'm new here so i'll say "Hi" to everyone first, so Hi everyone Lol.

I was looking around the net (primarily eBay) for a 7" tablet that I could use as a phone and came across the Dreambook. On the face of it, it looks like it will fit the bill and despite extra research and reading through this entire thread, I still can't find the answer to a question I have which i'm hoping someone here can answer.

It states that it can be used as a phone, but will I be able to just put it next to my ear, like a normal phone and make a call? Some tablets I have seen (like the Commtiva N700 for example) can do calls too, but require you to use a Bluetooth headset.

TIA.

Simple answer, yes you can! it also has a loudspeaker so you do not have to keep the tablet/phone to your ear.

Thanks for the quick responce :)
With what you've said "it also has a loudspeaker" does that mean it has a normal ear peice (so no one else can hear my conversation) but has the option to switch to loud speaker?
Thanks again. :D

Yes, the box comes with an ear piece with mic (of course) that you can plug in.

What better fimware version for dreambook w7 HD105? I have v25 but can try V24 and V23 for better 3g. Someone have link for download?

Putting clear:
you can use as a hands-free,
or you can turn down the volume and put in your ear (very weird, and works less worse in left ear),
Or use a wired earphone (comes with the tablet),
or use a bluetooth headset (not supplied with the tablet).

Thanks for clearing that up for me, now that's established, I need to decide whether to look an even bigger tit, using the W7 as a phone than I do already with the Dell Streak haha! :D

Any solutions for HD105 V25 3g?

I think the same as HD 104 V25: still the same bugs and no fix from Synrgic yet.
When I turn on the radio no signal and it turns on the BT, I don't use 3G so i don't know the bugs there.

Which music app is good for the W7? I use Songbird now, but still looking for something better. And which app for the video chat like MSN for the W7?
And what about the flash patch on te downloadsite of Synrgic is it a update?

I think I mentioned before, and this sounds weird, but the radio in HD104 device works better with HD105 software. But all the rest gets messed up.

I downgraded mine to V24-HD104, but the connection issue got just a bit better. Maybe a full wipe will solve, but I haven't tried yet.

For music, I use Mixzing, which is great; but I noticed another bug in the Dreambook that sometimes music stops playing and only plays again after reseting the tablet. This happens with Mixzing and with original music player. Ohter bad thing is that Mixzing's lock screen does not work with Dreambook.

If anyone (in the UK) is interested in buying a 1 week old HD105 Dreambook with a case, feel free to PM me.

It certainly has all the bells and whistles but it's nowhere near as refined as the Samsung P1000.
Like everyone else's experience, the radio doesn't really pick up anything, and if like me you plan on using Route 66 or any other routing software (I tried Route66, Copilot, GPS Test and a bunch of other apps) you'll find that the Dreambook shows you are travelling at twice your actual speed..... I was beginning to think my car was really fast for at least 2 minutes!!!! I'm sure this is something Synrgic will fix................ GoogleMaps with the 3G connection works fine.

I was even shocked at how fast the GPS picks up your location from a cold start.

Everything else on the device works great. I just don't get why Synrgic couldn't sort out the firmware before they started shipping these. How hard is it to get a radio and GPS working properly? I actually think the build quality is quite comparable to the Samsung. Something I never thought I would see with a cheap chinese tablet.
Why Synrgic doesn't read this forum is a mystery.

really? i had the wifi problem last night as well. Is it when you are trying to connect to wifi, it just says "error"?? what I did was I revert back to v20, but it did not work. So i thought of upgrading it again to v24, this time I had to wipe all data/reset the tablet. Here's what I did:

In the android recovery menu:

1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. apply sdcard:update.zip
4. apply sdcard:boot.img
5. reboot

After that, wifi came back. Hope this will also work for you.

Arghhhh.... did update an now my WiFi also died, with the famour "error" message

I have followed your procedure 3 times, still no luck. Sigh.... I do not know what to do next.

EDIT:

Now it works again, my misstake... I did not select the actions in your list in the exact same order.

Sent my Dreambook back to vendor. he replaced it , but said I messed up the Sim slot. Don;t know how. The new one will also not connect to tmobile network. T-mobile said they get no signal from me at all. They should see something and then block if its deemed a tablet. I guess i'll use it as a remote. and get viewsonic

Just received my Dreambook here in Australia...build 20110525(HD105) and everything seems good...tried a Vodafone (3) sim and works ok...tried Optus Sim, also worked ok.

A couple of comments:
1. The opening post states the unit is 300 grams...mine weighs 480 grams so it is a lot heavier then I had hoped
2. The screen is so darn hard to touch and requires an extremely firm finger touch for a touch to be recognised...extremely not happy about this
3. There isn't any instructions anywhere on how exactly and which way to insert the sim card...took a bit of trial and error to know which way it goes

One test that I need to do is to find out if our telco company Telstra and their own branded NextG works...NextG is UMTS 850 MHZ frequency...if it does then great...if not then it will have very limited use here in Australia

Only had it for a couple of hours now so will explore it further
