(How To) CM7 Bootable SD

Update.... clicked the email icon which for me was on the homescreen just to the right of the defaul/center homescreen. This has the 'manual setup' button so started going down that road. However, once I filled in email and password and then clicked the manual setup button, my NC screen went black and it just shut down and rebooted into the internal stock ROM??

Rebooted again to CM7, this time the NC force closed and rebooted into internal stock ROM after just selecting the email icon from the homescreen....

Will start to research a bit now, but wanted to mention it here as well in case others have had the same issue.

UPDATE: not sure what fixed it, but I turned the NC landscape, installed a couple apps from the market that I had already purchased and then tried to setup email again by tapping the email icon on the homescreen again. This time it worked fine and I am all setup. Was able to setup another email account (my home ISP one) as well.

How do I backup My CM7 Bootable SD Image?[/h]
I finally have all my Nook progtams running with all of my Apps and data, it seems stable. Before I screw it up How can I make an image of the card to back up with win32image?

Thanks

I have been able to use 2 different size ScanDisk cards with good success. I even dared to try another class 4 card and it holds true to the threads of ScanDisk cards are the magic touch.

I know I am jumping into the thread late here but the only issue that I seem to have found is that the Bluetooth is not turning on. In my trials I believe I might have had it one once before I settled on the 8gb card. I am really happy otherwise with the build (i.e. response, apps, etc). the Bluetooth is not a showstopper but if someone might lend some assistance on where to lo

So many questions so little time. For bluetooth, go into settings and turn off wifi then reboot. After it boots back up turn on BLUETOOH FIRST then wifi. This should enable bluetooth.

I rarely use a cell phone so what advantage is the bluetooth on a tablet? I know it is used to use a headset for a phone. so is it to use a remotr speaker??

Sorry for being dumb.

Thanks. For the reply about Bluetooth.

I am going to try to connect a Bluetooth keyboard. The other potential is fur tether connection for network.

Sent from my NookColor using Android Tablet Forum

Thanks for the response Key board and sound sounds good.

Is there a wiki on tethering?

I am new to this site/thread and I have tried to follow your instructions to burn an SD card with CM7. The initial boot/load appeared to go well but when I re-power my Nook as far as I get is the blue Android text with a flashing cursor. I hope you can point me in the right direction. Please keep these things in mind: 1. I am old so please type your answers slowly. 2. I have studied this process for about a week prior to attempting this. 3. I picked your instructions because they seem to be the most straight forward. Thanks for this excellent thread even if I am not successful!

Hi C 1 9 4 5 i s t h i s s l o w e n o u g h? :) Sorry, had to do it. How long does it sit at the blue android text? How many times has it stuck at that point? If you have tried booting a couple of times and not made it past this it is possible there was a bad install.

You can reformat the SD card and try the procedure again. Please let us know if you have any additional questions about the process. The nice thing is that because it is all contained on the SD card it is easy to wipe it and try again.

:D

After I burned the img and copied the two zip files to the microsd, should there be 2 partitions because the program on the computer created one very small partition with almost no space left with all the files on it, while the other partition has more than 7gb. Should this happen?

I had already reformatted the card using Panasonic SD Formatter because of a problem with my first attempt (user error). On the second SD card load I got the Generic boot file burned again and the CM7 & Gapps files copied correctly (I extracted the files on the card the first time). Initial boot looked good but it hung a the blue android_ text. This occured at least 6 times prompting my query. If I have a bad load I wonder if my source files are junk? CM7.0.3 stable build came from XDA Developers site but the generic boot file came from some obscure site in Crimea. Can you offer suggestions for better source?

Looking to switch from Ultimate Droid 3.3 to CM7. Do i need to do anything special(i.e. revert to stock) before following the instructions, burning the image and booting it from the sd card?

Thanks in advance.

It isn't necessarily the source files. Sometimes they jsut don't come through exactly as they should. That is why the MD5 sums are included, so you can verify the download. I would just try deleting all of your current files and redownload them. Then format your card and repeat the procedure. If it still doesn't work verify that the files are correct using the MD5 sum.

Now that you have been trhough the process, it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to redo plus however long it takes to download the new files.

Since this is for bootable CM7 which runs entirely on the card you don't need to do anything to the internal setup. If you boot without the card you will boot to UD 3.3 and with the card to CM7. You only need to change what is on the internal memory if you want to have something different than UD on there when not running CM7 from the card.

As I said above I really appreciate what you have done for me and for all the other members of this thread. I recognize that you spend hours doing this that you would not have to share with anyone. THANKS AGAIN!
Everything you have told me has helped me understand a process that is all new to me. I will make another attempt and see what kind of success I have. I know by past experience that even an old guy like me will finally master this stuff if I just keep working at it.
