(How To) Installing/Using ClockworkMod, Rom manager, nandroid backup, custom kernels

@nikkai
Well 1-2 minutes just to get past "touch the future..." is too long.

It sounds like somewhere down the line from using the sd CWR, you messed up your boot so the boot sequence is having to fix to system or boot mount in it it's procedure each time you boot which is why you are taking a long time to boot past "touch the future".

It may be time for you to head down the road of using sd CWR to reflash your internal memory back to stock:

start over......... you have a damaged stock recovery boot image.

Thanks. I finally got the 8 failed attempts to work and reset to stock. Unfortunately, Nook immediately updated to version 1.1.0 which I did not want to do. But at least now I'm back to stock setup that I can start over with. Any suggestions on rooting procedure starting from version 1.1.0. I'm not sure I want to use autonooter 3.0 again.

I suspect the loss of apps and other issues I experienced were caused by me trying a number of suggestions I read in various parts of this thread last night before finding Darmeen's zip file. Lesson #2 learned - don't do things in a panic. Read and understand before you start pushing buttons!

Just an idea if you aren't happy about being on 1.1.0; you can always use a bootable CWR SD to flash the 1.0.1 Recovery Image - putting you back to 1.0.1; then root it.

Aye, what he said! just beat me to it.

When you do a backup, the files should be in the SD card right? What happens if you want to format the card after testing a rom? Do you need to transfer the backup files to the computer? I havn't gotten my NC yet, but I'm researching.

That is the easiest way...I always have a backup of my sdcard on my pc...just in case.

1. Yes
2. You will delete your backup (image files).
3. Yes

You will have a folder on your SD card that you can easily copy to your pc and then copy back when you wish.

-Once your SD card is mounted to your pc (plug up your NC to pc via usb cable)
-Copy clockworkmod/backup folder

Just gotta show me up with your fancy pictures huh Maurice? haha

Not at all Vic, if I didn't post so slow, I would have seen your post first. I love the pics and screen caps though. :)

Still issues I believe, I'd hold off till the coast is clear. :)

What issues have you seen? I've not experienced any so far, and I updated to it via ROM Manager from the manually installed v3.0.0.6 and powered down then up, and was able to reboot into recovery from ROM Manager and performed a nand backup. No hiccup at all. I think they might have gotten it worked out, however there is still NO official answer to my questions there about the difference between the two nook version in the device list when trying to flash recovery.

Maybe 2 images are present, that is why 2 pop up? Idk.

Well, people have reported having issues when they pick the wrong one... wrong seems to depend on what rom they are on (ext3 v. ext4) but no one is willing to acknowledge that point so far. Kinda pissing me off that my questions have been ignored at the "other" place. :)

Was referring to 3.0.0.9, which still looks like some are still having issues. Pehaps you are one of the lucky ones or the version plays nice with CM7. Either way, IMO it's not ready for the masses.

Need help again. After successfully recovering to ver 1.1.0 stock, I did a lot of reading on options. Decided approach suggested to reset with 8 failed boot attempts and make sure my router was not plugged in so I wouldn't get the automatic B&N update to version 1.1.0 made most sense. Then I could root using autonooter 2.12-15 on the 1.0.0 version and then flash the NookColor_v1.1.0-r2 ROM after rooting. My goal was to get it set up so I could use CWM without having to worry about the hiccups with autonooter 3.0.

So I got through the 8 failed boots, got the installing software screen, and Nook progressed through this normally. When it finished this and started reboot, passed through the "n" screen, then suddenly the Android screen with the starburst pattern appeared. Nook then just stays in loop of Android pattern. I can shut it down by holding power button. I went through the 8 failed boots again, got installing software screen, with normal progress, but again got the green Android screen in endless loop.

Tried plugging in USB to computer to see if I could see NookColor - no dice. Computer tells me device is busy and cannot load drivers.

Am I screwed?
