(How To) Installing/Using ClockworkMod, Rom manager, nandroid backup, custom kernels

Couple of updates Rico - you are listing 5 kernels, including the stock one, but you are speaking about 4. I guess you added one later but didn't update the text?

Also, I believe the kernels you linked are Dalingrin's original OC kernels correct? If so, they can all be replaced with this new link (Dalingrin's OC Kernels for all ROMs) that shows all 6 of his current kernels, and the link will continue to work when he updates them as well. Just make sure you state the user should grab the correct kernel for their ROM. He has a kernel for Eclair, Froyo/CM7, and HC; as well as eMMC and SD versions of each.

I will have to think about this one for awhile. I don't wish to confuse people, which many are already at that state. I'd like to keep those links for b&n software only, adjust accordingly and post kernels for other android os's in their appropriate threads.

Thanks for the grammar correction.

No problem, and his "Eclair" kernels are for the b&n software and include many updates/fixes to the older kernels. Unless your original links are NOT dalingrins work then it would be worth preserving.

-Rom manager will then flash your NC with the CWR image
-If asked for NC model, pick "nook color (old)"
-Once complete you will see the following: "Successfully flashed..."
I think there needs to be a correction. As per XDA,with new CWR we should chose "Nook Color" not old.

The 'NookColor (old)' has known issues and will not be supported at all. DO NOT USE THIS VERSION. No matter what ROM you are using NookColor will work correctly.

avi you have power to make the change. Just note that you did so.

Yeah, but I am not quite sure and that was more like a query. As per the same XDA link we have to do it manually. One word - I am confused ! you help me out.

This is the crux of my questions over at XDA and nemith refuses to respond to me or anyone else that raises the issue that "when I picked Nook Color I can't mount /system, but when I picked (old) it worked. how come?"

So for right now, we should include text to try the new one first and if it wont work, to reflash and select (old). At least until a real answer is given.

This is ridiculous, and I can't do anything but laugh. I changed op to "old" since most on this forum said "old" worked. Well the correct answer will get sorted one of these days. My vote is "old".

I firmly believe that 'old' works for any ext3 based rom and 'new' is SUPPOSED to work with both, but only works well with ext4 based rom. But I've been yelled at and ridiculed for asking, so I am just going to let everyone else ask. It's crazy. And now that ROM Manager is upgrade to v3.0.1.1, there are some folks reporting it broke their CWR again. wtf?

I am on CM7 and updated ROM Manager via market to 3.0.1.1 now I am skeptical to flash CWR [I never after installing CM7 also.]

EXT4 SD is best for me.

Hi, Newbie here,

I had trouble with the CWM loop issue on reboot while trying to install the OC.

I'm back to normal thanks to the great tutorials (uninstalled CWM).

Now, I am wondering if I can use the process but with CWM on a SD card only, or do I have to flash the NC?

Thanks a million for all this! BTW, the "thanks" button does not show up in my browser (Firefox 4 beta).

Graham

Welcome to the forum and I'm glad the tutorial helped you out. If you used autonooter 3.0, upgrade your CWR rom manager from the market to version 3.0.1.1, reboot, then flash CWR in rom manager to the new version 3.0.1, pick Nook color (old). Then turn off NC or do a normal reboot. Once back into home, you can boot to CWR and make a backup, flash or whatever else you want to do. With the new CWR version you shouldn't have any more boot loops.

...But if so you know what to do. I'd avoid using a sd bootable CWR for daily use unless you have issues and need to use it.

I'm running 1.1 rooted with 3.0 auto-nooter with a 32gb sd card,
everything seems to be working - but I seem to have lost some internal memory-
did not know if there was something I missed or what ?-
can someone check their setting aginst mine and let me know?

thanks

You didn't loose any internal storage and what you are displaying is correct. The first picture shows the total amount, 5 gb which is 8 gb minus the 3 gb hidden partition for the stock recovery. The second picture is not showing all the internal storage and shows how some of it is dedicated. Of the 5 gb total, you have 1 gb dedicated to installed apps, and rest for the android system itself and usable space for you.
