Trying to Identify Kernel, Possible Overclocking Possibilities for DM7022 Radio

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking in this thread for about a week now after ordering my ES777A. Lots of good information in here. I have had the shipment in for a few days now and have set up the droid TAB to my liking (root, apps, etc...).

Today I installed the actual HU in my truck. It was functioning fine for about 30 minutes, everything I tested was working properly. Then I started to test my reverse camera, trying the reverse camera input and the AUX input, both worked fine. But then all of a sudden the HU turned off and I couldn't turn it back on. No idea why. Checked all my wiring and rechecked. Used a multimeter and confirmed +12v power. Even plugged in the stock radio back in and it worked fine. All fuses are intact, including the one on the rear of the radio.

I brought the HU inside to try and bench test and troubleshoot it. I have had no luck. When the unit is powered, it flashes its lights in the front for just a second then is totally dead. When I hit the reset, its lights flash in front, then its dead. I have absolutely no idea what happened. I really do not think I shorted something in the HU with just plugging in video signal inputs. There it no smell from the HU that would indicate a short either (although I know this isn't always the case).

I am going to talk to tech support tonight on Erisin's site and ask if they have heard of this before.

Any ideas tho guys?

-Steve

Ok just spoke with Erisin's online support...

They tell me based on my description, that the problem is the MCU. I ask what the MCU is (in my head I am thinking microcontroller unit). They send me a picture of this:

$MCU.jpg

They they ask for my order number so they can ship out the MCU to the correct address.

I scratch my head for a second.

I say, I dont think I can do this repair myself.

They reply, "I will ask the technician if it is a easy fix for you and I will e-mail you"

What ever the case, its going to be a lot more time before I get this ES777A installed. :(

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the thread, sorry to hear of your problems.
I doubt they will expect you to solder the pictured processor, more likely they would ship the pcb with processor mounted on it. Another member murzzZ has posted some posts with links to pictures of the inside of the main unit & he might have advice on how difficult it is to dismantle the unit.

Good luck & please let us know how you get on.

I have been madly reading the russian site and I am now ready to do some custom rebuilds of the Car logos and menus. I have done a trial run right up to producing the custom rom file but want to make sure I have something good to burn onto the unit.

If any one wants some info on giving it a go - all care no resposibility - I'm happy to assist.

Just need a good redesign of the menus now. Any budding designers out there. Can give you all the images to edit. The only condition is the buttons areas have to be in the same positions.

This would be wonderful. I have been reading the translated versions on the Russian thread and saw that someone successfully changed one of the logos. I wish I had the talent to do the work and design some new ones...

Keep us posted mr_cat, thanks

Well I can confirm it works. Sucessfully changed my car logo to my number plate (that should help if it ever gets stolen .lol)

I also changed the Main Menu but as I said - Im no designer.

$mpeg_1_.jpg$mpeg_2_.jpg$mpeg_15_.jpg

The logos work no problems. The main menu has a push down image that is still the original. No sure how I can change that as its not in the extract.

The unit seemed a little strange when I was jumping around menus testing (slower maybe - not quite sure yet - might try a reset as that usually helps after a rom load)

Will try some more changes and a reload back to original to ensure all is OK for anyone wanting to try.

Bottom line is if you want just a new car logo its a piece of cake. The menus take some mucking around getting the graphics in the right spot and replacing all the pushdown images is going to be an issue. Will have a look at the bin file and see I can work out how the images (mpegs) are encoded.

Hi mr_cat,

That is very good news, thank you for your hard work & letting us know about this.
This unit which started off as a bit of a oddity with a few problems, has thanks to this & the Russian forum started to transform in the beautiful swan of a device that it should of been !

I have a question re the modded logo firmware for the main unit, Is it suitable for both the DM 7022 & DM7033 (ES666 &ES777) ? There are few differances between them, one unit has a fan fitted & one does not & one unit supplies 5v dc to the pad & the other 9v dc.

Thanks again,

Mark

Designer or not, that looks way better than the stock menu images...

Keep us updated on your testing.

Unfortunately for me I have to send my main unit back to China. This really pisses me off...

As I said in previous posts, I had a problem powering the unit on. They offered to send me a new mainboard so I could replace it myself, which I told them I was happy to do, but then they asked me to send them the old mainboard FIRST! WTF, there is no point to that, I would rather send the whole damn thing so they can make sure it all works...

E-Mail I received this morning after 2 days of e-mail tag:

Hi Steve,

This is a unfortunate situation which is very frustrating for you :-(
The only thing I would say is that the progress that has been made by all the guys in Russia & here has turned this promising unit into one that delivers a great experiance, I hope postage time between China & the USA is fast & passes quickly for you.

The image editing will work as it is a Sunplus chip but you would need to get the original firmware to edit. Didnt see that one on the russian foums - saw the Digital TV version but not the DM7022.

I have main unit from DM7022 with analog TV. And I have installed firmware from DM7033 with analog TV. TV, SD, DVD, USB, RADIO, CAMERA and VIDEO IN works fine.

Hi all,

This thread has helped me a lot in understanding this device.
I bought it after reading on this thread and the Russian website referred.

After a few weeks (2-3 I think), the unit is quite impressive and the possibilities of Android is endless!

Long story short, last night I managed to break something and whenever I turn to the HU, the screen just goes white, with a feint line across horizontally right in the center...
The funny thing is that I can still change mode using the HU buttons with the tablet detached, the sound works, the buttons works, even the TV, backup camera, Aux works.
The white screen seems to come out when it is in BT and radio mode.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Contacted Erisin and Joanna said that it is due to a fault in the front panel that connects the tablet to the HU.
$Touch Point.jpg$IMG_0259.jpg
She said no soldering required but then I decide to open up the unit and this is what I see...
$photo 1.JPG$photo 4.JPG
So I asked them to send me this entire piece (I dont know how to solder such small and delicate pieces of electronics), no response yet...

I want to find out if there are any fellow members that has the same issue and did this resolve it?
